Meta is introducing a new AI content generation feature that defaults to using public Instagram posts and reels. This feature, powered by Meta's Muse Image model, allows anyone to create AI content incorporating images and videos from public Instagram accounts. Users can tag specific Instagram profiles using an @-mention to pull their public photos into AI-generated visuals. Meta's aim is to enable creative uses like custom invitations or collaborative concept mockups.Instagram's help page clarifies that public content can be used for AI creations without user notification. By default, all public Instagram accounts are opted in, meaning their photos, feed videos, and reels can be reused in various Instagram features and for AI content generation. If you wish to prevent your content from being used in this manner, you must manually disable the AI permission in your Instagram app settings. Navigate to Sharing and Reuse and toggle off "Posts" and "Reels" under the "Allow people to create with and reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta" section. It is important to do this promptly, as content used for AI creation before disabling the setting will not be deleted. The opt-out option may not be immediately visible for all users as the feature and its controls are still rolling out. Private Instagram accounts are excluded from this feature. Meta also intends to expand Muse Image to Facebook and Messenger, and plans to launch Muse Video in the future.
