Microsoft & Snowflake’s Commitment to Apache Ossie

Microsoft is committed to advancing an open, interoperable semantic foundation for AI-powered analytics through Apache Ossie. This community-led initiative aims to create a vendor-neutral standard for exchanging semantic metadata across various platforms. Customers desire platform-agnostic agentic experiences, requiring semantic context to be defined once and reused universally. Power BI semantic models, with their extensive user base and widespread adoption, are key enablers of AI-driven analysis. Microsoft is bringing its expertise in semantic modeling to Apache Ossie, collaborating with Snowflake and others. Apache Ossie addresses the complexity and inconsistency of recreating semantic definitions across different platforms. The collaboration with Snowflake focuses on cross-platform semantic layer conversion without data duplication. Future plans include establishing DAX as an Ossie-recognized query language and advancing support for ontologies. The ultimate goal is to allow customers to define semantic context once and reuse it anywhere. A new integration scenario allows converting an Ossie document into both Snowflake Semantic Views and Power BI semantic models.
