Microsoft Hijacks Keyboard Shortcut To Bring Copilot To Your Attention

Copilot has transitioned from a Progressive Web App (PWA) to a native binary for Windows Insiders, improving user experience. The app now appears in the system tray after installation. However, the assistant's quick view feature has been assigned the Alt+Space keyboard shortcut, which is already used by many applications, including Microsoft's PowerToys. This decision may not please keyboard warriors who rely on specific shortcuts. Microsoft acknowledges the shortcut's widespread use, stating that the first app launched and running in the background will be invoked when using Alt+Space. This change may cause conflicts with other apps that use the same shortcut. The update aims to enhance Copilot's functionality and integration with the Windows operating system. Despite potential conflicts, the move to a native binary is expected to be welcomed by users. The transition reflects Microsoft's ongoing efforts to improve its digital assistant and enhance user interaction.
