Microsoft Raises Xbox Prices, Drops High-End Storage Model From Lineup
Microsoft has announced worldwide price increases for Xbox consoles, effective August 1, 2026. The 512 GB models will rise by $100 and the 1 TB models by $150. Microsoft is also discontinuing the 2 TB model. This follows a previous price hike in the U.S. last October. The company cited significant increases in console storage and memory prices exacerbated by the global components crisis. Consoles, unlike other consumer electronics, are typically sold at a loss. One commenter expressed offense at the all-caps styling of "Xbox" and skepticism regarding profit claims. The decision to discontinue the high-end 2 TB model, rather than the lower-end 512 GB version, is seen as significant. This move is compared to Apple limiting RAM configurations on Mac Studios with the M3 Ultra chip. Apple previously offered higher RAM upgrades, but these are now unavailable, forcing consumers to seek used models at inflated prices.
