Microsoft SPARK: Powering America’s Genesis Mission for Scientific Discovery
The U.S. Department of Energy has launched the Genesis Mission to accelerate scientific discovery using artificial intelligence. This national effort unifies DOE's 17 National Laboratories with advanced computing and data resources. The aim is to significantly boost research productivity and innovation within ten years. Genesis aligns with national AI action plans to reduce foreign dependence and leverage American scientific strength. Microsoft's SPARK program is designed to support the Genesis Mission's goals. SPARK provides program management, technical expertise, and investments in AI and scientific computing. A dedicated Program Management Office will act as a central point for collaboration. An AI-for-Science Center of Excellence will help labs implement AI solutions. Microsoft is also offering substantial Azure cloud service credits for research. Additionally, they are investing in professional and technical services for the National Laboratories. SPARK furthers co-development of challenge problems through joint research and development. This partnership aims to achieve tangible scientific outcomes and maintain America's leadership in science.
