Microsoft starts testing Copilot Vision in Edge

Microsoft is introducing a preview of Copilot Vision, an AI feature that scans web browsing and engages in conversations about it. The feature is currently available for testing in Copilot Labs, but has strict limitations, only working in Microsoft Edge and on a select set of websites. The trial is also restricted to a limited number of Copilot Pro subscribers in the US, but Microsoft plans to expand access over time. Copilot Vision sessions are opt-in and ephemeral, meaning users must activate them manually and data is wiped after each session. The feature only interprets text and images from browsed websites and does not process content beyond that or train on web publishers' data. Microsoft's cautious approach with Copilot Vision is a departure from its previous launch of Recall, which drew criticism from security and privacy experts due to its lack of encryption. Recall, a "photographic memory" feature, is now available for Windows Insiders to try after three delays and security adjustments. Copilot Pro subscribers can sign up to request access to Copilot Vision through Copilot Labs. Microsoft has released a demo video showcasing the feature's capabilities. The company plans to carefully expand the list of supported websites over time.
