Modular synthesis of chemically programmable superlattices
Intercalants confined between two-dimensional atomic layers can self-assemble into ordered interlayer structures, giving rise to well-defined intercalated superlattices that offer chemically programmable functionalities. This Review classifies the building blocks used to construct such functional intercalated superlattices and examines the key challenges as well as emerging strategies for their synthesis and assembly.
