MTV Rewind is a developer's tribute to 24/7 music video channels

MTV closed its remaining 24/7 music video channels in late 2025, marking a significant cultural shift. The network had long transitioned towards reality programming, leaving a void for music video enthusiasts. A developer, Flexasaurus Rex, created MTV Rewind, a web app to fill this void by offering the experience of the classic MTV. MTV Rewind features eleven channels, including specific decades, classic shows, and a channel dedicated to MTV's first day. The app boasts a library of over 33,000 music videos, offering a massive amount of viewing time. The developer was motivated by the sadness over MTV's shift and created the app in just 48 hours. The app randomly plays videos with a skip function and includes era-appropriate ads. MTV Rewind uses IMVDb and pulls videos from YouTube, the very platform that contributed to MTV's decline. The app mimics the aesthetic of older websites with a hit counter, enhancing its nostalgic appeal. Though not officially affiliated with MTV, the app utilizes the name, creating some uncertainty surrounding its future.
