MWC 2026’s most bizarre phone can start fires (on purpose)

The Oukitel WP63 is a rugged smartphone designed for outdoor use, boasting unique features beyond standard functionality. Its standout feature is a built-in electric igniter, intended for starting fires in emergency situations or while camping. This igniter utilizes a heating coil, similar to older car cigarette lighters, controlled through a dedicated app. The phone's protective cover reveals the igniter, allowing for controlled ignition of flammable materials like paper. The igniter's performance impressed observers with its gentleness and controllability. The phone also includes a massive 20,000mAh battery, a loudspeaker, and a built-in USB-C cable for charging other devices. Notably, the igniter isn't designed to light candles, which is slightly perplexing for potential users. The WP63 is notably thick, measuring 27mm, moving away from the trend of thinner phones. It’s anticipated to be priced around $500, targeting outdoor enthusiasts. The phone’s robust design may even allow it to be used as a blunt defensive tool in a bear attack.
