Jeremiah Fadesayo Adetoro, a law student, won Best Creative App at the Microsoft Agents League Hackathon with his project, StudyMate AI. Adetoro developed StudyMate AI to address the challenge of consolidating study materials into usable revision notes. The app aims to guide students through their own materials, explain concepts, create stories, facilitate practice, and generate revision documents. He envisioned StudyMate as more than just a study tool, incorporating gamification with XP and a friendly AI study coach named Matey. A key feature, Story Mode, teaches concepts through scenarios relevant to the student's field. Building the app involved streamlining from a complex initial draft to a more focused and impactful design. To reduce latency, Adetoro implemented a wiki-based storage system instead of a traditional RAG setup, allowing agents to connect ideas more directly. Grounding was a critical goal, ensuring the app uses uploaded material and avoids fabricating information. Adetoro learned to build with unfamiliar Microsoft tools and transform personal problems into focused products. He believes the best ideas often stem from current challenges, emphasizing the need for attention, purpose, and iterative improvement. This win has boosted his confidence, and he plans to scale StudyMate into a global tool for student exam success.
