Forensic experts are questioning an orange object seen in surveillance footage near Jeffrey Epstein's jail cell before his death. The pixelated shape, observed moving towards his cell block, was identified by federal investigators as a corrections officer with linen. However, forensic video experts suggest it could be an inmate in an orange uniform. They also assert that a person could have accessed Epstein's cell stairs without being seen. Despite these questions, the Justice Department's Office of the Inspector General maintains the footage does not alter their conclusion of suicide. Their comprehensive assessment considered the prison's staffing crisis and camera coverage issues. The DOJ stated that the analysis of the video did not change their findings or recommendations. Furthermore, the presence of a cursor and menu on the released video suggests it might be a screen recording, not raw footage directly from the DVR. An earlier joint DOJ-FBI memo definitively ruled out murder, concluding Epstein died by suicide through hanging. This memo also denied the existence of a client list, contradicting earlier statements.
