New Google Drive Inventory Reporting enhancements provide even richer insights into file permissions

Google Drive Inventory Reporting, launched in October 2024, provides administrators with metadata about files in Google Drive via BigQuery. This reporting helps identify security risks and ensures compliance. The reporting has been enhanced to include detailed permission information. Now, admins can access schema fields detailing permission inheritance, type, and role for both My Drive and shared drive files. This update complements recent Drive access experience improvements. The enhanced reporting provides a more comprehensive view of permissions across the Drive environment. Administrators can find more information in the Help Center. End users experience no changes. The update is rapidly rolling out to all eligible Google Workspace editions. The report includes data from all end users, regardless of their edition.
