Apple's new M6 and M5 Pro Mac mini models offer enhanced external display support. Both can drive up to three external displays, but with improved refresh rates compared to the M4 generation. The M6 model supports two displays at up to 6K 60Hz or 4K 165Hz, with a third at 5K 60Hz via Thunderbolt or 4K 60Hz via HDMI. The M5 Pro model can run all three displays at up to 6K 60Hz or 4K 165Hz. For dual-monitor configurations, the M5 Pro's second display reaches 5K 120Hz or 4K 200Hz. The M5 Pro can manage all three displays through a single Thunderbolt port. Single-display performance remains robust, supporting 8K 60Hz, 5K 120Hz, or 4K 240Hz. Port-wise, the M6 has Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 1.4, while the M5 Pro features Thunderbolt 5 with DisplayPort 2.1. These new models were announced and are available for pre-order, with shipping commencing September 22.
