OpenAI announces Apps SDK allowing ChatGPT to launch and run third party apps like Zillow, Canva, Spotify
OpenAI's DevDay conference introduced an innovative Apps SDK, enabling third-party developers to build applications directly within ChatGPT, including paid options. This new feature allows users to interact with external apps and their data seamlessly without leaving the chatbot interface. Users can direct apps like Canva to create presentations or Zillow to find homes, all through conversational prompts. The Apps SDK is built on the open-source Model Context Protocol standard previously introduced by Anthropic. It allows ChatGPT models to access real-time context from these integrated apps. Developers can create apps that display as cards, carousels, or in fullscreen and picture-in-picture modes, preserving ChatGPT's conversational flow. Early integrations showcased with Coursera, Canva, and Zillow demonstrate the potential for interactive learning, design, and real estate browsing.
