OpenAI is launching a ChatGPT mode specifically for teenagers. This new feature aims to assist young users in learning, critical thinking, and confident AI utilization. It incorporates learning-focused starter prompts to aid in studying and skill development. The mode includes a built-in Study mode and offers learning tools, such as quizzes. Teens or their linked parents can designate specific "Study hours" for AI interactions. OpenAI has implemented reminders for users to take breaks. The feature clarifies that ChatGPT is an AI and lacks consciousness or emotions to prevent unhealthy attachments. ChatGPT automatically enables this mode for accounts identified as belonging to users under 18. Users can verify their age if they believe they are incorrectly flagged and request the removal of teen protections. This new mode is rolling out globally to eligible teen accounts on free and paid personal ChatGPT plans starting August 18.
