OpenAI Launches Always-On 'Dots' Agents to Rival Meta's Muse
OpenAI has launched "Dots," a new always-on agent designed to compete with Meta's Muse. Dots are powered by the GPT-6 Astra model and feature a cloud computer with web browsing capabilities. These agents learn from user feedback to better understand preferences and goals over time. Dots can operate 24/7 and integrate with over 4,000 applications. Users can interact with Dots through voice calls, text, and within ChatGPT or other messaging platforms like Slack and Teams. The agents maintain context across different channels and can perform proactive research in the background. Dots adhere to ChatGPT's established permissions and allow for custom rules regarding task approvals. Initially, users can create a single "primary dot," with team functionalities planned for a later release. Dots are currently rolling out to Pro, Business Premium, and Enterprise plan users in select regions, with wider access anticipated soon. Eligible users receive one Dot at no additional charge, and conversations with the agent do not impact ChatGPT usage limits. Separately, OpenAI announced GPT-6.1 Sol, an enhanced version of GPT-6 Sol with significant upgrades in agentic coding and computer use.
