OpenAI Launches New Coding-Focused GPT-4.1 Models

OpenAI has unveiled three new GPT-4.1 models through its API: GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and GPT-4.1 nano. These models are not currently available for use in ChatGPT. GPT-4.1 showcases significant advancements in coding, instruction following, and long-context handling, exceeding previous models like GPT-4o and GPT-4.5. It supports up to one million tokens, enabling enhanced long-context understanding. GPT-4.1 mini delivers performance comparable to GPT-4o with reduced latency and lower costs. GPT-4.1 nano is designed for speed and affordability, optimized for tasks such as classification and autocompletion. Many improvements from GPT-4.1 are already present in the ChatGPT version of GPT-4o. These models have a knowledge cutoff of June 2024. With the launch of GPT-4.1, OpenAI is discontinuing GPT-4.5 in the API. Pricing varies, with GPT-4.1 being the most expensive and GPT-4.1 nano the most economical.
