OpenAI prepares to send GPT-4 out to pasture

OpenAI is retiring GPT-4 from ChatGPT on April 30, replacing it with the improved GPT-4o model. GPT-4o offers advancements in writing, coding, STEM, instruction following, and conversation. It's considered the natural successor to GPT-4, offering greater capability and consistency. API users will still have access to GPT-4 after its removal from ChatGPT. OpenAI is also reportedly developing new models like o3, o4-mini, and GPT-4.1. A research preview of GPT-4.5, a more conversational model, was introduced earlier. These upcoming models are seen as stepping stones toward the highly anticipated GPT-5. OpenAI acknowledged GPT-4's significant role in ChatGPT's evolution. The company appreciates the feedback that shaped the development of GPT-4o.
