Opera One has released an update introducing a vertical tabs feature. This new option relocates the tab bar to a resizable panel on the left side of the window. The primary goal is to address the issue of horizontal tabs becoming unreadable when too many are open. In the vertical layout, tab titles remain clearly visible. Opera's Tab Islands feature is integrated, allowing for collapsible tab groupings within the vertical panel. This panel can also collapse to save screen space. Additionally, the update incorporates Google Lens directly into the start page search bar for image searches. Users can initiate searches by uploading files, dragging and dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or providing a URL. These features are now available in Opera One. Opera's introduction of vertical tabs follows similar implementations in other major browsers. Microsoft Edge introduced this feature in May 2021, and Firefox added it in March 2025. Google Chrome also began rolling out vertical tabs in April. Apple Safari offers Tab Groups, accessible from the sidebar, which provide a form of vertical listing.
