Papa Johns Surveillance-Based Advertising
Papa Johns is employing a new strategy to target customers when they might be running out of food. They are collaborating with NBCUniversal and Instacart to identify these opportune moments. The core idea is to predict when consumers are low on groceries and then present them with appealing pizza advertisements. This is accomplished by analyzing Instacart purchase data for essential grocery items like milk, eggs, and produce. Based on these purchasing patterns, Papa Johns aims to determine the days a customer is likely to be running low. They then serve targeted ads on NBCUniversal streaming platforms to these specific consumers. The ads are customized to individual food preferences, ensuring relevance. Some advertisements even feature QR codes and questions like "Light on groceries?" or "Empty fridge?" to prompt action. This approach seeks to reach potential customers effectively by anticipating their needs. The goal is to influence purchasing decisions by appearing when hunger is high and grocery stock is low.
