Plan for Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 2016 LTSB end of support

Follow
This document announces the upcoming end of support (EOS) dates for three Windows products released in 2016: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB, and Windows Server 2016. These products will stop receiving security updates and support after their respective EOS dates, potentially impacting organizations using them. To mitigate this, Microsoft offers the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program as a temporary solution. ESU provides critical and important security updates only, not new features or broader technical support. Windows Server 2016 users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows Server 2025 by January 12, 2027. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB users are advised to upgrade to Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 or Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 by October 13, 2026. ESU pricing for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB will be available through Volume Licensing or CSPs; The price doubles each year. Windows IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016 users should upgrade to Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 by October 13, 2026. ESU for Windows IoT Enterprise LTSB 2016 is only available through IoT OEMs. The ESU program can provide additional time to transition but is not a long-term solution. Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest LTSC releases for optimal performance and security. Users are encouraged to stay informed through the Windows message center and related resources. Various online communities are provided for further information.
