Power BI October 2026 Feature Summary
The Power BI team has released new updates focusing on Copilot and AI, reporting, and semantic models, aiming to enhance report creation and data value. A significant AI improvement allows Power BI reports with custom visuals to be created using natural language skills for Fabric, reducing manual configuration. In reporting, a new Gantt chart visual is introduced, enabling project planning and progress tracking with customizable time axes and task details. The list slicer now features a dropdown option, simplifying navigation of long lists and making active filters easier to review. Chart plot areas now support background colors and conditional formatting, improving visual separation and data recognition. The hierarchy axis in charts now auto-expands with field parameter support, ensuring consistent drill-down behavior across visuals. Personal bookmarks now preserve visual column widths in tables and matrices, maintaining consistent layouts. For semantic models, continuous CU usage reporting provides more accurate surge protection by offering a current view of in-progress consumption. This leads to earlier capacity interventions, with increased proactive rejections and delayed operations, and fewer late-stage Fabric throttling rejections. These updates collectively make Power BI more flexible and efficient for users.
