Mark Gurman discussed the future of the Pro Display XDR and a larger iMac in his Power On newsletter. The Pro Display XDR, released in 2019, features a 32-inch screen with LED backlighting, 6K resolution, and a 60Hz refresh rate. A new Pro Display XDR is currently not a priority for Apple due to its high price and niche market. In 2022, Apple was working on an updated version with an Apple silicon chip, but it's unclear if that's still the plan. Customers are hoping for a camera, speakers, and a higher refresh rate in the next Pro Display XDR. Meanwhile, Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac in 2020 and has only offered the 24-inch iMac since then. Gurman suggested that Apple will eventually release a larger iMac, but it may not be a 27-inch model. In 2023, Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple was developing a 32-inch iMac with mini-LED backlighting for release in 2024 or 2025. The late 2024 window has passed, but a 2025 launch is still possible. Gurman's latest update on the larger iMac is vague, leaving customers waiting for more information.
