Puzzle platformers, desktop aquariums and other new indie games worth checking out

The latest edition of the indie game roundup is here, featuring news, new releases, and upcoming games. The Steam Summer Sale is currently ongoing, offering numerous bargains on the storefront, and a story about Peak, a co-op climbing game, has been making waves. Peak was developed by a team of seven during a month-long retreat and has sold over 2 million copies in just 9 days, thanks to smart marketing and a low price point. The game's success is an inspiring story for small studios, and it's hoped that more will find ways to collaborate in a similar manner. Meanwhile, Microsoft has approved a free, fan-made Halo-themed game called Spartan Survivors, which is available on Itch.io and will come to Steam and Xbox later this year. New releases include I Am Your Beast, a stylish first-person shooter that has landed on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and Ruffy and the Riverside, a 3D puzzle platformer with charming hand-drawn art. Other new releases include Quantum Witch, an adventure platformer with a queer emancipation story, and Antro, a rhythm-based puzzle platformer set to hip-hop and electronic music. Upcoming games include Flock Off!, a first-person action title set in Scotland, and Look Mum No Computer, a twin-stick shooter where you can make your own music. Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, a co-op firefighting game, is also on the horizon, with a release date set for September 9 and a pre-order pack that includes a vintage helmet and an adorable Dalmatian. Overall, there are many exciting indie games to look forward to, with a wide range of genres and styles represented.
