Rare Apple-1 With Steve Jobs Letter Sells for $1.15 Million

The "Hatfield" Apple-1 computer recently sold for $1,148,200 at auction, establishing a new world record. This price significantly exceeded the estimated $500,000 to $800,000. The intense bidding war lasted for 28 minutes between two interested parties. The computer is named after its original owner, Fred Hatfield, who had corresponded with Apple about its limitations. Included in the sale was a letter from Steve Jobs offering a trade for an Apple II motherboard. Hatfield chose to keep his Apple-1, later selling it privately for $40,000. The computer was then restored, and Steve Wozniak signed its motherboard. Previously, this same machine sold at auction for approximately $686,000 in 2013. While Apple-1 prototypes have sold for higher amounts, this marks a record for a commercially sold unit.
