RNA sequencing can capture high-resolution snapshots of a cell’s transcriptome, but transient changes in individual cells cannot be captured over long periods at a transcriptome-wide scale. Now, a synthetic organelle termed the ‘recordanelle’ can record cellular RNAs in cells for several days and be read with single-cell sensitivity.
