The retrospective is a time when the team looks back at a piece of work, reflects on what has gone well, solves problems and becomes happier. Well, that’s the story we tell ourselves. The reality is that retrospectives can often be tedious, ineffective and confusing. Many I’ve been part of seem to have become a box ticking exercise rather than a key problem solving activity. I’ve seen teams rush through them, forget them, or even disregard them. Maybe this is something you recognise, too.
