RIP, iPhone Ultra
Tech blogs widely speculated that Apple's foldable iPhone would be named iPhone Ultra. This rumor gained traction after Mark Gurman reported that Apple employees also referred to it as iPhone Ultra. However, John Gruber had accurately predicted the name iPhone Duo in April. The name iPhone Duo was further circulated on social media shortly before the announcement. Gurman later confirmed the iPhone Duo name in a report just before Apple's official reveal. The choice of iPhone Duo seems appropriate because the device lacks some "ultra" features. While it boasts a large inner display, it omits a Telephoto camera and Face ID. Apple has previously used the "Duo" branding for products like the PowerBook Duo and MagSafe Duo Charger. The "Duo" in iPhone Duo clearly signifies its dual screens. Apple does have "Ultra" branded products like the Apple Watch Ultra and M-series chips. It is possible Apple may use the iPhone Ultra name for a future product, perhaps a special anniversary iPhone.
