Roche launches the cobas MPX-E assay, a new 4-in-1 donor screening test to further safeguard the global blood supply

The cobas MPX-E assay, launched by Roche, is a single test detecting HIV, HCV, HBV, and HEV, enhancing lab efficiency. This multiplex real-time PCR test offers faster turnaround times and facilitates Hepatitis E screening without new instruments. The assay is designed for the high-throughput cobas x800 systems, allowing up to eight hours of walk-away time. The test improves blood safety by identifying these crucial viral pathogens simultaneously in a single workflow. It addresses the high global incidence of HEV infections, aiming to prevent transmission through blood transfusions. Dual-target detection in the assay ensures reliable HIV-1 group M results, even with mutations. The cobas MPX-E assay is targeting the Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) market, which is a significant global market. The assay also has flexible testing options, allowing single or all four targets to be run. Laboratories screening for HEV will benefit from quicker results. Safe blood product access is a key goal.
