Roche’s phase III evERA data showed giredestrant significantly improved progression-free survival in people with ER-positive advanced breast cancer
Roche announced positive results from the evERA breast cancer study evaluating giredestrant plus everolimus. This combination reduced the risk of disease progression or death by 44% in the ITT population. In patients with ESR1 mutations, the combination showed a 62% reduction in the same endpoints. The study involved patients with ER-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer previously treated with CDK4/6 inhibitors. Giredestrant plus everolimus demonstrated statistically significant improvements in progression-free survival. Overall survival data were immature, but a positive trend was observed in both populations. Adverse events were manageable and consistent with known safety profiles, with no new safety signals. This combination therapy could become a new standard of care in the post-CDK inhibitor setting. The evERA study is a phase III trial comparing this combination to standard-of-care endocrine therapy plus everolimus. Giredestrant is an investigational oral selective estrogen receptor degrader. Roche aims to bring this potential treatment option to patients as soon as possible after health authority discussions.
