Roche’s Vabysmo demonstrates sustained two-year results in a difficult-to-treat form of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD)
New two-year data from the SALWEEN study of Vabysmo were presented, demonstrating significant improvements in vision and retinal health for patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV). This aggressive subtype of nAMD is common in Asian populations and a leading cause of vision loss. The study showed sustained efficacy and durability of Vabysmo in treating PCV. More than 60% of Asian patients treated with Vabysmo achieved inactivation of polypoidal lesions. By year two, a majority of patients were on an extended 20-week treatment interval, reducing the treatment burden. Vabysmo was well tolerated, exhibiting a long-term safety profile consistent with its use in nAMD. The dual Ang-2/VEGF-A inhibition offered by Vabysmo demonstrates its potential to alter the course of this vision-threatening disease. Patients experienced improvements in visual acuity and a reduction in retinal fluid. Overall, Vabysmo is proving to be an effective treatment option for PCV, offering both disease control and a reduced treatment burden.
