Runway now has its sights on the video game industry with its new generative AI platform

Runway, an AI startup, is expanding into the gaming industry with its new platform, Game Worlds, which allows users to create interactive text-based games using AI-generated text and images. The platform is set to launch next week, with CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela hoping it will pave the way for more AI use in gaming. Valenzuela predicts that generated video games will arrive later this year, and Runway is seeking partnerships with game companies to access their datasets and train its AI. However, the use of AI in gaming has sparked controversy, with industry professionals criticizing its potential impact on jobs and intellectual property. Runway has faced its own controversy over allegedly training its AI on pirated content, violating YouTube's terms. Despite this, the company has had success with TV and film studios, including a partnership with AMC Networks to create promotional materials and accelerate pre-visualization. Runway also partnered with Lionsgate to provide AI for pre-production and post-production processes. The gaming industry has already seen examples of generative AI, such as Ubisoft's Ghostwriter tool for creating video game dialogue. Runway aims to replicate its success in the gaming industry, but it will need to address the concerns and criticisms surrounding AI use.
