The upcoming iOS 26 update features a redesigned Liquid Glass address bar and three layout options. Additionally, the update includes smaller changes to the Safari browser. Starting with iOS 26, every website added to the Home Screen via Safari will open as a web app, even if it's not configured to do so. This means that Home Screen app icons for websites will no longer function as simple bookmarks. Users can opt-out of this change by turning off "Open as Web App" when adding a website to the Home Screen. This change also applies to iPadOS 26. Safari has also gained support for HDR images, which have a wider dynamic range and increased color gamut. This change applies across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and visionOS 26. Safari now also supports SVG icons, which offer infinite vector scaling and smaller file sizes compared to PNG icons. More changes to Safari are outlined in a WebKit blog post, and the software updates are currently in beta.
