Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold hands-on: Flexing is believing at CES 2026

Initially, the author was conflicted about the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, considering its higher price and added bulk compared to the Z Fold 7. Despite being a long-time foldable phone user, the initial specs seemed like a step backward regarding portability and affordability. However, after experiencing the TriFold at CES 2026, those concerns were immediately dismissed. The TriFold is notably bulkier than the Z Fold 7, referencing its weight and thickness, but that is made up for by its impressive 10-inch AMOLED display when unfolded. This larger display is a significant upgrade, enhancing multitasking and providing a desktop-like experience with Samsung's DeX mode. The 4:3 aspect ratio of the TriFold provides more screen space for widescreen content, improving the viewing experience for movies. Samsung's engineering ensures smooth opening and closing with precise magnet usage, offering a satisfying tactile experience. The device also offers safeguards to prevent incorrect opening, making it easy to use. The TriFold's use of glass-reinforced carbon panels provides strength, though design limitations might restrict further size reductions. Ultimately, the author finds the TriFold's multitasking capabilities and improved screen worth its bulk and high cost. The Galaxy Z TriFold is currently available in South Korea, with US pricing and availability pending.
