Scientists Create 'World's Smallest Violin'

Physicists at Loughborough University have created a violin measuring 35 microns long and 13 microns wide, smaller than a human hair, using a nanolithography system. The microscopic violin demonstrates precision manufacturing capabilities that will be applied to studies of computing and energy harvesting methods. The team used a heated needle-like tip to etch precise patterns onto a chip coated with gel-like resist material. The violin, which exists as a microscopic image rather than a playable instrument, took several months to refine and produce.
