Seth Michael Larson: Your GitHub Copilot access has been renewed 🤡

The author is a maintainer of a popular open source project on GitHub and receives monthly reminders that their free GitHub Copilot access has been renewed. However, they have never used Copilot and actively avoid generative AI features in all products, including GitHub. Despite this, there is no way to opt-out or disable Copilot, and the author has tried contacting support with no success. The author believes these reminders are a way for GitHub to justify further investment in generative AI technology. Creating a filter for these emails is not a solution, as many others may be receiving them as well. The author's Copilot settings in GitHub show that the "Enabled" label next to "Copilot in Github.com" is not editable, and there is no way to disable Copilot or cancel the "subscription". The author has asked about this issue on social media before but received no responses. They are frustrated that GitHub insists on sending these emails with no way to opt-out. The author is not paying for the service, so these reminders are not simply billing notifications. Overall, the author feels that GitHub should provide a way for maintainers who are not interested in Copilot to opt-out of these reminders.
