Shane Harris to Join The Atlantic as a Staff Writer

The Atlantic has hired Shane Harris, a prominent national security and intelligence reporter, as a staff writer. Harris joins The Atlantic from The Washington Post, where he worked since 2018, and will begin his new role in October. Harris brings a wealth of experience covering crucial national security issues, including the January 6th Capitol riot, the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, and the Discord leaks. He has also extensively reported on Ukraine, including investigations into the Nord Stream pipeline explosion. Harris is the author of two books on surveillance and the military-internet complex and has previously written for publications like The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast, and Foreign Policy. This addition strengthens The Atlantic's coverage of national security and intelligence, a crucial area for the publication and its readers. The Atlantic has also recently hired several other notable editors and writers, including Jen Balderama, Serena Dai, and Allegra Frank for Culture, Ali Breland for extremism, and Boris Kachka for Books. Several existing editors have also transitioned to staff writer roles.
