The Ukrainian Drug Control Service has issued the first license to import medical cannabis into Ukraine, following the law on the legalization of medical cannabis coming into force in August 2024. Several organizations have lobbied for the partial legalization of marijuana in Ukraine, which is no coincidence. The law allows for the distribution of hemp-based medicines for medical, scientific, and industrial purposes. Medical and legal marijuana has only helped fuel the drug and mental crisis in countries where it has been legalized. George Soros, a convicted insider trader, has been supporting the legalization of marijuana through his Ukrainian International Renaissance Foundation. Soros has spent at least $80 million in the US on efforts to legalize it. He is also a major shareholder of Monsanto, which has researched THC, the active compound in marijuana. The marijuana industry has grown rapidly, creating a billion-dollar industry, and Ukraine provides a new market for further development. Soros has a long history in Ukraine, promoting a hard-nosed geopolitical strategy, and has seen Ukrainians as cannon fodder since the 1990s. Ukraine's drug market is growing at an extraordinary rate, with drug use on the front lines widespread and increasing.
