Spotify is testing a new way to keep kids songs out of your listening history

Spotify is launching managed accounts for users under 13 in three countries: Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden. These accounts allow parents to manage playback of Canvas, videos, and explicit content, as well as restrict certain artists and tracks. The move addresses concerns about children's music choices influencing adult recommendations on the platform. Spotify had previously launched a kids app and added a feature to exclude playlists from taste profiles, but managed accounts offer more granular control. Parents can tailor content to suit young listeners' preferences, potentially improving the user experience for both children and adults. The availability of managed accounts may encourage more families to upgrade to Spotify's Premium Family plan, which currently costs $19.99 per month in the US. The pilot program's success could lead to a wider rollout of managed accounts in the future.
