Star Citizen spinoff Squadron 42 has been delayed again until 2026

Squadron 42, a single-player game set in the Star Citizen universe, has been delayed to 2026. The game was initially announced in 2014 and has experienced numerous delays over the years. Despite being declared "feature complete" last year, the developers are applying more polish to the game. Cloud Imperium Games boss Chris Roberts expressed confidence in the 2026 release window at CitizenCon. A gameplay video showcasing the opening segments was released to appease eager fans. Roberts stated that Squadron 42 will feature 30 to 40 hours of gameplay, but some work remains to be done to meet the desired quality. The game is a first-person action title with on-foot exploration, combat, and ship piloting, featuring a star-studded voice and mocap cast. The cast includes notable actors such as Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, and Mark Hamill. Meanwhile, the parent game Star Citizen remains in development, with an active alpha community and impressive crowdfunding numbers. Cloud Imperium Games has raised over $729 million for Star Citizen since its Kickstarter success in 2012.
