Starlink's next-gen satellite network could provide 150 Mbps speeds by end of next year

Starlink is launching a second generation of satellites, aiming for speeds comparable to terrestrial networks. Their goal is to provide connectivity similar to a high-performing 5G network. The V2 satellites are expected to reach download speeds up to 150 Mbps under optimal conditions. These next-generation satellites will have a significantly higher data density, improving streaming, browsing, and voice calls. The V2 constellation will also enhance coverage in Earth's polar regions, which have weaker signals currently. SpaceX plans to send over 50 V2 satellites per launch, starting in mid-2027. They aim to have a complete constellation within six months of those launches commencing. Starlink is partnering with Deutsche Telekom to improve coverage gaps in Europe by 2028. This partnership will bring Starlink's satellite internet to users in Europe. This expansion exemplifies Starlink's ambitions to provide global internet access.
