Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and venous thromboembolism can reduce the risk of blood clots by using blood thinners such as non–vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs), but those medications increase their risk of bleeding. According to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, aspirin carries a similar risk.
