Android 17 introduces an improved wireless native migration experience for iPhone users switching to Android devices. This upgraded method facilitates the transfer of a wider range of data, including Google Accounts, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIMs. It also continues to support the transfer of photos, videos, contacts, messages, and calendar events. The data transfer process requires an iPhone running iOS 17.3 or a later version. Both Apple and Google have implemented these app-free transfer tools to comply with the European Union's Digital Markets Act. This act mandates data portability to prevent operating system lock-in. Previously, data transfers relied on dedicated apps provided by Google and Apple. The Digital Markets Act also compelled a simplified eSIM transfer process for both companies. The new data transfer capabilities in Android 17 began rolling out to select Pixel devices in June. These features will also be available on Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip8 and Z Fold8 smartphones.
