Giant Squid has announced the release of its latest game, Sword of the Sea, on August 19 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The game will also be available on PlayStation Plus from day one for Extra and Premium Subscribers. Sword of the Sea is a fantasy adventure game that combines surfing mechanics with atmospheric elements from Giant Squid's previous titles, such as Abzû and Journey. A new trailer was showcased during PlayStation's State of Play on June 4, highlighting the gameplay. According to the developer, the game is centered around surfing, where players will carve their way across moving waves of sand on an ancient and powerful hoversword. The game features various scenarios, including dreamy ice-scapes and oceans filled with flying dolphins. Giant Squid collaborated with creative director Matt Nava and composer Austin Wintory, who also worked on Abzû and Journey. Matt Nava, a surfer and snowboarder, drew inspiration from his experiences, aiming to capture the rush of movement and beauty of nature in the game. Sword of the Sea promises to deliver an exciting and visually stunning experience.
