Taryn Simon's new exhibition, "Father Country I Do Love You," centers on an unnamed, former FBI agent. The project delves into the agent's career, which intersected with numerous significant American events and historical footnotes. Simon was intrigued by the far-reaching consequences of these events beyond their initial impact. The exhibition explores the fate of physical debris from the TWA Flight 800 crash. It also follows individuals connected to the agent's investigations, such as the woman whose Pentagon photo was confiscated. Additionally, the project tracks an Iraqi diplomat monitored by the agent and a child from a raided home. Described as a "Great American Novel in visual form," the work is considered "huge and fractal: biography as butterfly effect." The former agent even trained Jodie Foster for her role as Clarice Starling. "Father Country I Do Love You" will be on display at the Guggenheim in New York City from September 18 to March 14, 2027.
