The Moving Image Archive

The Moving Image Archive is an extensive collection featuring over 120,000 clips from nearly 2300 public domain archival films. It serves as a growing repository for forgotten films found across the internet. The archive emphasizes the importance of preserving verifiable history, especially in an era where synthetic footage can distort the past. Among its notable holdings is an amateur film from 1933 capturing Chicago’s Century of Progress World’s Fair and scenes of New York City. Another significant entry is "Story of a City: New York" (1946), detailing the city's historical and economic development. The archive also includes a 1915 tinted silent film version of "Alice in Wonderland," available with or without a synchronized soundtrack. "Apollo 11 — 30th Anniversary" (1999) combines mission footage with interviews from the astronauts. "Story of Television" (1956) chronicles television's evolution from early experiments to nationwide broadcasting. "A is for Atom" (1953) is an animated film explaining atomic structure. Finally, "Space Shuttle: A Remarkable Flying Machine" (1981) documents Columbia’s maiden mission.
