The Twitter domain is officially being retired. Here’s what to do to make sure your account doesn’t get locked

The social media platform X will officially retire the Twitter.com domain on November 10. This change comes over two years after Elon Musk rebranded Twitter to X in July 2023. Critics at the time considered the rebrand detrimental, but the new name appears to be permanent. The domain's phase-out was announced subtly through X's @Safety account. Users relying on specific two-factor authentication (2FA) methods must update their log-ins before November 10. Specifically, those using physical security keys or passkeys as their 2FA need to re-enroll them. This notice does not apply to users who utilize authenticator apps for 2FA. Physical security keys and passkeys offer enhanced account protection by making remote hacking more difficult. To avoid account lockout, users must re-enroll their security key or passkey via account settings linked to the x.com domain. Failure to do so will lock accounts until they re-enroll, choose another 2FA method, or opt out of 2FA.
