Tips on cooking steak in Apartment building?

Late night post, but oh well. Hello, I've recently been craving steak but wanting to cook a steak dinner at home instead to try it my very first time homemade. The thing is though, I live in a apartment building and read that cooking a steak can possibly cause the smoke alarm to go off. I'm hesitant and don't want to start a whole fire alarm fiasco where the fire department could show up. Anyone have any tips on cooking it inside my apartment room? (I have avocado oil as I read is good for high heat cooking, but again, I'm new to cooking something as fancy as steak...) submitted by /u/82ndD
