Touchscreen MacBook Pro to Be 'Touch-Friendly, Not Touch-First'

Rumors suggest Apple is developing a touchscreen MacBook Pro, but it will prioritize traditional input methods. This new device will offer touch functionality as an added feature rather than a primary interface. Mark Gurman reports that the integration will be seamless between touch and point-and-click interactions. macOS 27 will bring changes to support the touch-friendly interface, influenced by previous design updates. The touch-based MacBook Pro won't mimic the iPad experience, remaining a familiar MacBook Pro. Users can expect on-screen elements to adjust controls based on the input method. The system will incorporate iPad gestures like pinch-to-zoom and fast scrolling. A hybrid iPad/Mac experience is likely several years away with a possible foldable iPad in 2029. The touchscreen MacBook Pro could launch later this year with an M6 chip and an OLED display. Redesigned models could include a hole-punch camera and potentially a Dynamic Island.
