President-elect Donald Trump has formally won the Electoral College, securing the presidency after Texas electors awarded him the state's 38 electoral votes. Trump reached a total of 312 electoral votes, surpassing the required 270, while Vice President Kamala Harris won 226. The Electoral College consists of 538 electors, with each state's electoral votes equivalent to their number of House representatives and two senators. Trump won all seven battleground states in the election and also secured the popular vote. A Republican trifecta was secured in the election, with control of the House and Senate. Trump's incoming administration is preparing for his second term in office, with nominations for his Cabinet and White House staff announced. Trump's Cabinet picks are meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to shore up support for their confirmations. Electors have until December 25 to send their results to Washington, D.C., and lawmakers will certify the results of the 2024 presidential election in a joint session of Congress on January 6. Trump and JD Vance will be officially sworn in as president and vice president on Inauguration Day, set for January 20. Trump has also announced nominations for U.S. ambassadorships, including Herschel Walker to the Bahamas and Nicole McGraw to Croatia.
